Lewis Armistead was the famous Brigadier General during  Pickett's Charge who is most known for leading Virginians to across an open field to Union territory.

Lewis Armistead was great friends with Union General Winfield Handcock.  The battle of Gettysburg would mark the first time since they would be near each other since they went their seperate ways when the war started.  Lewis Armistead led a Brigade under Pickett's Division during Pickett's Charge.  When he and his men reached a fence they needed to get over to continue there assault, he put his hat over his saber and yelled "Virginians with me who will come with me."  This motivated his troops to climb over the fence and continue their journey to the stonewall where the Union troops were waiting.
Quote “Give them the cold steel, boys.”
