George E. Pickett was the leader of Pickett's Charge.

George E. Pickett is recignized for the day three failed assault on the Union high ground.  Pickett, more than anyone wanted to get in on the action at Gettysburg.  Lee appointed Pickett and the 15,000 Virginians at his disposal to take the Union high ground.  This assault was a failure, and  when Lee told Pickett to reform his division, all Pickett could say was "General Lee, I have no division."  Pickett returned to Virginia a hero, but brewed the loss till his dying day.

Quote "The stern old war-horse, God bless him, was weeping for his men and, I know, praying too that this cup might pass from them. I obeyed the silent assent of his bowed head, an assent given against his own convictions, given in anguish and with reluctance. "
